I have recently found myself engaged in a blog battle with photographer Bryan Soderlind. It all started because of a review I wrote about the highly-anticipated wakeskate video Fun Boots! I Only Shoot Covers

It has been a running joke (mostly within my own mind) that I only shoot covers. My published photo section is only covers and well, despite the fact that most are either not newstand mags, or on the online mag I run, I still think it's cool. The night I took this photo I actually was talking about Rob Campbell about how this was a night to shoot your pipe cover and the event actually ended up being canceled due to the fog. After a year of digital elph filmmaking, I have finally upgraded to a real video camera. I invested in a Canon Vixia for the explicit purpose of shooting the Nikita 2010 Outerwear shoot in Utah. I was enlisted to make daily videos for the social media so this may have been overkill, but it seemed like a good excuse. Of course, it may have been wise to buy it more than a few days in advance and actually figure out how to use it and transfer the footage before showing up to do my job, but you know... I did get to Utah a few days early to meet up…

It's awesome that this is my front yard right now but I am off to Salt Lake on Friday for the Nikita photoshoot (subscribe to my Youtube videos and don't miss a minute of it!) and then Vermont for the last week in March. I was informed today that not only will I get to enjoy the World Quarters, but Pat Moore's Back to the Boneyard at Waterville and Last Call at Loon if I am so inclined! Snowboarding has gone well this year (other than the fact I have gotten a lot worse at it) so I am exciting to finish the season with some fun east coast events.…

Lately I have been listening to a lot of talk radio. Portland has an awesome AM station that boardcasts Air America and other liberal and awesome shows. As it turns out, it's more interesting than the 6 gigs of music on my iPod. So that, combined with the fact I have been really opinionated lately, prompted me to say yes when I was invited to be on the radio myself. It's sort of entertaining to me that every time I write a post urging freelancers to get paid for their writing or photography, it gets people riled up. There was the 6 page hate thread on the message boards, and the latest post about it indirectly encouraged much discussion on other blogs after some personal interaction between the mags and the contributors (weird, right?) So why is getting paid for services rendered such a hot button issue these days? Well, I figure it has to be that society doesn't see value in writing or shooting action sports. I have been trying to get an interview done for alliancewakeskate.com for awhile now. Unfortunately, the person I am having one of my writers interview, was born before the 80's and doesn't seem to understand the concept of web. He just keeps asking "will it go in the magazine" instead of just answering the questions for a site that is checked by pretty much every wakeskater in the world, and will be seen by more eyes, and by more people who actually care, at that. Wakeskating is it's own animal, it's small, no-budget, etc etc. But my employer and I are investing all we can into producing quality content for…

I was set to stay thru Tuesday but crappy weather and general laziness prompted me to change my ticket for tonight. I have recently found myself engaged in a blog battle with photographer Bryan Soderlind. It all started because of a review I wrote about the highly-anticipated wakeskate video Fun Boots! It has been a running joke (mostly within my own mind) that I only shoot covers. My published photo section is only covers and well, despite the fact that most are either not newstand mags, or on the online mag I run, I still think it's cool. The night I took this photo I actually was talking about Rob Campbell about how this was a night to shoot your pipe cover and the event actually ended up being canceled due to the fog. After a year of digital elph filmmaking, I have finally upgraded to a real video camera. I invested in a Canon Vixia for the explicit purpose of shooting the Nikita 2010 Outerwear shoot in Utah. I was enlisted to make daily videos for the social media so this may have been overkill, but it seemed like a good excuse. Of course, it may have been wise to buy it more than a few days in advance and actually figure out how to use it and transfer the footage before showing up to do my job, but you know... It's awesome that this is my front yard right now but I am off to Salt Lake on Friday for the Nikita photoshoot (subscribe to my Youtube videos and don't miss a minute of it!) and then Vermont for the last week in March. I was informed today that not only will I get to enjoy the World Quarters, but Pat Moore's Back to the Boneyard at Waterville and Last Call at Loon if I am so inclined! Snowboarding has gone well this year (other than the fact I have gotten a lot worse at it) so I am exciting to finish the season with some fun east coast events.…

Lately I have been listening to a lot of talk radio. Portland has an awesome AM station that boardcasts Air America and other liberal and awesome shows. As it turns out, it's more interesting than the 6 gigs of music on my iPod. So that, combined with the fact I have been really opinionated lately, prompted me to say yes when I was invited to be on the radio myself. It's sort of entertaining to me that every time I write a post urging freelancers to get paid for their writing or photography, it gets people riled up. There was the 6 page hate thread on the message boards, and the latest post about it indirectly encouraged much discussion on other blogs after some personal interaction between the mags and the contributors (weird, right?)
