My Super Awesome Wasabi Coleslaw

Just in time for summer to be over, I've decided to blog my go-to BBQ recipe. I'm not sure at what point in my life the idea of shredded cabbage salad starting sounding good, but since then I love the stuff, and have basically perfected my own recipe, so here goes. This will make a party-sized portion so cut back as necessary. Ingredients One head of green cabbage (grated) 2 Carrots (grated) 1 small Red Onion (finely chopped) 1 Jalapeno (finely copped) 1 red pepper (finely chopped) Handful of fresh parsley (chopped) Dressing 1 Cup Mayonnaise 1/4 cup vinegar (enough to thin, but not overwhelm) 1 Tablespoon sugar 1 Tablespoon…

Two Dollars

Down the street from my office is a restaurant called Hungry Tiger Too. It's sort of a strange place with a jungle motif and over priced food. But we ended up there today and it turns out that on whatever day today is (Wednesday), they have $1 (Vegan) corn dogs and $1 PBRs. So I had a delicious lunch today that cost $2. You can figure out yourself how I split my money up.

The History of YoBeat

One of my main professional projects is YoBeat.com. Just saying that sounds weird, given that I've been "doing" YoBeat since I was 15 years old, but these days, it is actually a large part of my day-to-day exsitence. I can't complain. It's amazing to have a project that I have full creative control over, people seem to like, and even makes me a (very) little bit of money. But the strangest part about concentrating on YoBeat is that students and aspiring extreme journalists have taken notice. I've done a few online interviews about it. There was the one on (apparently now defunct) Diablo Snow, before the actual relaunch. And then…

I am Awesome at Skateboarding!

Everyone wants to be a skateboarder (except of course rockstars and Gods.) Luckily for me, I am totally awesome at skateboarding. That is of course, unless you put me in a video with people who are actually good. I guess since Jared's video is arsty, I will forgive him for making my stunts look less cool by juxtaposing them against Ben and Scott. Dude Ranch Mini Ramp: Portland from Souney Media on Vimeo.

Mormons and New Toys

After a year of digital elph filmmaking, I have finally upgraded to a real video camera. I invested in a Canon Vixia for the explicit purpose of shooting the Nikita 2010 Outerwear shoot in Utah. I was enlisted to make daily videos for the social media so this may have been overkill, but it seemed like a good excuse. Of course, it may have been wise to buy it more than a few days in advance and actually figure out how to use it and transfer the footage before showing up to do my job, but you know... I did get to Utah a few days early to meet up…

Top Chef Portland: True Hollywood Story

You may remember the original Top Chef Portland. It was created during my initial foray into iMovie film making, but received high acclaim. Nate Betteker had recently moved to town, and we recruited him, as well as other Portland newbies Chrissy and Tim, to judge the ultimate battle of soup supremacy. The  Top Chef Portland Soup Off was born. The original YouTube video received much acclaim and nearly 2000 views, and the plan was always to have a second battle. The idea was to base it on Tontinos Party Pizza, because, obviously, they are delicious. It took nearly a year to get everyone together again, although Azad (sorry about your…

So I have big things in the works this week, but I may have promised someone the "exclusive." Yeah, it's that big. All will be revealed tomorrow, but for now, here is a picture of the Vegan Bakery employees in short shorts. Apparently they just all decided to wear their shortest shorts today, or something. I thought it was a joke, but last time I went downstairs they were still wearing them. Man, living in Portland is great. PS. Sweet Pea Bakery is really yummy and everyone should eat there and have Allan (not pictured) make you an iced Americano.

Lunch Blogging is back!

With all this excitement about the new iPhone, I have almost been tempted to get one. Wait, no I haven't. I am happy with my PC version and I am signed on for like 8 more years with Verizon anyway. Jared was an early iphone adopter though, and just upgraded to the new software, which provided him with many more fun applications. That brings me to the point of this post: One of said applications is Urban spoon, which pinpoints your location and then randomly selects a nearby restaurant. The best part of this is it selects a new one when you shake it and makes a neat sound, but…

I have really been slacking on this lunch blog thing, but what with my busy schedule, I just haven't had time to seek out new, awesome spots, and no one really wants to read about Panera Bread. But today I ventured to an old favorite, Slo Bar. What I didn't take into consideration was this: Yeah, that's my favorite meal in Portland on the cover of the magazine read by all the wealthy and obnoxious Lake Oswego-types. So I go in, order my burger, and sit back excited to dine in the company of a few hipsters. But then I notice the people walking in. Three old ladies who are…

Short Shorts

Slo (Down) Bar

I have really been slacking on this lunch blog thing, but what with my busy schedule, I just haven't had time to seek out new, awesome spots, and no one really wants to read about Panera Bread. But today I ventured to an old favorite, Slo Bar. What I didn't take into consideration was this: Yeah, that's my favorite meal in Portland on the cover of the magazine read by all the wealthy and obnoxious Lake Oswego-types. So I go in, order my burger, and sit back excited to dine in the company of a few hipsters. But then I notice the people walking in. Three old ladies who are…
