Belated Post-Florida Post

I haven’t been traveling as much lately, which honestly, is sort of nice. But last weekend I headed down to the city beautiful, Orlando, FL. Now usually the reaction to me traveling to Orlando is “why would you do that,” but this time as Hurricane Bill loomed off the coast creating “the sickest waves ever bro,” so at least some people thought it was a good idea to go to Florida. Me? I went no where near the coast. Instead I was there for Surf Expo, which includes no actual surfing.

As you can imagine, a trade show in this economic climate was a somewhat depressing place. Few booths and even fewer big booths than I’ve seen in my years of attending. But hey, having fewer brands in attendance made my job easier as I had to profile each brand for Alliance Wakeskate. In addition to photos and short write ups, I also decided to make little videos with each brand, which would have been way more awesome if I had an appropriate mic, but what can you do? So far I’ve only edited one and with the magic of embeddable videos on the new Alliance site that’s set to launch ANY DAY NOW, it’s after the jump along with the rest of my trip.

Once Expo was over, Nike 6.0 basically took things over. First it was an 80s Prom-themed premiere of it’s wakeskating video (or the biggest wakeskate party, ever) and then a free ride day at the Projects wake camp the next day. Between those two things and the boatload of press releases that were sent out, the site looked like Nike 6.0 threw up on it for a couple days but it’s gotten better now!

After all my wake duties were done I ended up at a hipster parking lot BBQ behind Beta, complete with a lot of misshapen human beings and a dunk tank. I would like to say “only in Orlando” but let’s face it, it was definitely something that would happen in Portland too.

When I got back I had no trips planned what-so-ever, that is, until yesterday. I hate to blog about twitter because seriously, how ridiculous is that, but I decided to actually start using my YoBeat account, and delete all the SEO experts etc. I had followed trying to get more followers. Now I can actually follow the tweets as they come and was sort of paying attention to them yesterday afternoon. One of the people who made the cut on YoBeat’s account was Tony Hawk, and yesterday he did a Twitter giveaway for a free round trip ticket anywhere in the US. Wouldn’t you know, I won! Basically, my entire Twitter life is changed now, since in addition to the prize, Tony is now following me. Anyway, read me interviewing myself on YoBeat here.
