My latest business venture is building websites. I use the term “business” loosely though, as for the most part I’ve been building them for friends and family to gain experience. I’ll tell you a secret, Wordpress is really easy to use. The hardest part of making it look good is figuring out where in the back end the stuff you want to change is located. But I’m definitely getting better, and faster, at it, and I’d almost say I enjoy it.

While YoBeat is a wordpress site, Jared gets the credit for that one. However, when Sarah Morrison decided she wanted her own blog on YoBeat, I created Act Like You Know. Sadly, she got an actual paying job and has seemingly lost interest, but some of the back posts are very entertaining, and Nick is keeping it alive to some extent.

My friend Jen Sherowski had been wasting her wonderful blogging skills on Myspace. While she contended that it’s still just as good on Myspace, I assured her that she would be MUCH HAPPIER with a wordpress blog on her own url. We found a theme that worked with her page, changed some fonts, and bam! She is a wordpress convert too! http://www.jennifersherowski.com/blog

When I was home in Vermont, my dad was still grumbling about how his website was boring and he didn’t know what to do. I’ve been encouraging him to blog (social media expert that I am!) and I finally just said, send me your info, I will build you a site. A few clicks and tweaks later, I am proud of what a good little blogger he is! http://johndavidgeery.com/blog

With those fairly straightforward projects under my belt, Jared and I teamed up on my first real project, the website for the bakery below our office. Lisa wanted a site where she could blog, but would also be a good resource for people to learn more about the bakery. I went in and did most of the major structural work, then Jared built the graphics and styled it. What can I say, I am not a designer! But I am pretty excited about how it came out, as is the client! http://sweetpeabaking.com/
You may also notice some changes in this here site. The old theme was great, but outdated, and not widget ready. I love me some widgets, so I figured it was time for a change. I also wanted something that showcased my portfolio a little bit better, which I think this accomplishes. It’s still a bit of a work in progress, but that’s the beauty of Wordpress!
In other diversification news, Nick and I decided it would be a good idea to guest write Best Week Ever when Sarah was out of town or too busy. My attempt was up first. Enjoy!
