“Making it”

I don’t know when it happened, but it seems I’ve become one of the people in snowboard “journalism” others look up to. When I was just starting out it was people like Dave England, Dave Carnie and yeah, even Pat Bridges for me. I still have a hard time feeling good about comparing myself to these people (and not just cause I am a girl) but it seems like are some people out there who would. One thing all these guys shared, other than being funny dudes, was that I was a little bit afraid of them. Pat used to invite me to breakfast and I would show up to…

Yobeat is Back!

What big news I mentioned? here is the official release: Snowboarding’s original blog, Yobeat.com, relaunched on August 8, 2008 in celebration of its 11th anniversary. Actually the relaunch had nothing to do with the date or the anniversary. That’s just when it was done. Yobeat.com started in 1997, the brainchild of Brooke Geery and Rachel Cotton. Over the past eleven years it has gone through many incarnations, ruffled feathers, been banned from major events and of course, entertained anyone doing a google search for Macho Man Randy Savage or snowboard parks. The original philosophy of Yobeat was to tell it like it is, and that remains unchanged. Sure, not everyone…

Most Extreme Week Ever

It's Friday, but it's a special Friday because this one is concluding the most extreme week ever. Jared was smart enough to realize this when he pointed out (via his facebook status) that it was Shark Week and the X Games, which is a lot of extreme for one week. At the bar I realized this was clearly the cause of the recent earthquake in So Cal and I am glad I got out when I did...the cicadas can't be far behind... Since I do have the word extreme on my business cards, this was a big week for me. I spent last weekend at the S3 Super Girl Jam…

New Stuff

I spent the weekend shooting the Nike wakeskate team in Salem and in my studio. It was more work than I really wanted to do, but I did get one shot of Ben that might get some love in the print mag. I also took portraits, such as the one below, which are always fun. Today I finally got around to uploading some more recent print clips, including my first newsstand print cover and a feature in the June issue of Transworld Business. I could make you go look at the published samples page, but that just seems unnecessary, so here are the images and/or links to check out the…

J-Sak, the exclusive interview

Last night I blew off a skate mission to watch the Bachelorette finale. It was a good decision, because as it turns out, J-sak won! I don't personally know Jesse, in fact, my first impression was that he was not doing the sport of snowboarding any service by claiming to be a pro snowboarder, but after watching the whole season, well, I got a little tear in my eye as he proposed and she accepted! So what better way to celebrate than by getting an exclusive interview, with his friend Nate. How do you know Jesse? He’s a childhood friend of mine, originally from Ohio. We used to snowboard together.…

My Big Break

I don't really need to go into much explanation, because the interview really says it all. I was recently contacted to do said interview, which is sort of amazing, given the fact that I am a minor action sports internet celebrity at best. But I had fun with it. Go Read.

Battling it Out

I might have been hungover today. Maybe. After the Dude Barn fiesta Nate and I decided it would be fun to get really drunk, so I did. Look for amazing photos featuring me, Kokane and popcorn coming soon to a social networking profile near you, but this post is about today. My sister arrived from Vermont yesterday with her friend Laura, who apparently skateboards. So I sucked up the headache and sour stomach to take them up to Battleground. We lagged and I missed out on the session with homies, mostly because as we were pulling into town Burgerville was seriously calling my name. Let me tell you, the strawberry…

“pro” snowboarder?

Here I sit watching ABC's The Bachelorette. Now I'll admit I love terrible TV as much as the next person, but this show is a low, even for me. So why, do you ask, would I put myself through this show where the SAME GIRL from last season searches for love amongst douche bags once again? Well, I currently have two guests from Ohio, and they excitedly informed me someone from their past was one of the potential suitors on this season's Bachelorette. The Ohioan featured on the show is Jesse Csincsak and according to his bio, he is a professional snowboarder. I personally have never heard of Jesse, but…

Vegging Out

I went to my first Vegetate ever this weekend. Since I have no real perception of time and the passage of time, I don't remember the first time I heard about Vegetate, but I guess it must have been when I moved to the Northwest for college. I don't know, because I remember hearing about it and it being kind of a big deal, and it doesn't seem like I was in college THAT long ago. Sort of like Spring Loaded used to be when Terje and Brushie would show up. Well, it's not a big deal anymore. The only "name" there was Josh Dirksen and he didn't even compete.…
