Worst Trip Ever?

I've been on a few bad trips. They all have some things in common, such as limited/poor selection in music, weird foreign places, and a bunch of assholes. I am on another trip that may go down in the anals of my vacation memories, this one to outside Toronto. I am here for a wakeskate contest, where I am pretty much the sole member of the press. Well, there are other people here but no one seems to be working that hard. I've been sitting in the hotel bar (there's no internet in our rooms) for at least six hours. Editing, writing, video, photo, etc. All I've got to…

Trifecta, Trifecta and more Trifecta

This whole YoBeat thing is sort of inconvenient, since I now have ANOTHER website to update.  But I just trained intern to update, since I am leaving for Canada tomorrow and will be in wakeskate world for the whole week. Hopefully he doesn't blow it and I will be able to delegate more of the updates to him. Either way, I actually put some effort into today's post, about the Oregon Trifecta. Meaning I edited a video. It's not my best work, but it has it's moments. You can check out the whole YoBeat post here. I also did a blog for Fuel.tv which is a lot wordier. You can…

Bad Internet Day

I was an early adopter of the internet, and like any one who's been around something for awhile, I think it's crazy how much it's changed. But one thing hasn't changed, and that's how much fun it is for some people to be anonymous assholes. I'll admit, I used to try and stir shit up in the Snowboarding Online chat rooms when I was a teen, so I understand exactly what is going through people's heads. For the most part it's harmless, but after all the intern drama on Alliancewakeskate.com, one of my contribs sent me this article and I got a little scared. I mean, I like my identity…

Holmes Would Not Approve

Another fun weekend of home improvement. In order to avoid the massive hype that would surely ensue after the launch of YoBeat, I figured it would be best to just stay home anyway. That and I had a pile of lumber and a bunch of new windows just sitting around. Now if you know me, you may know I am sort of a spazz and patience isn't one of my better qualities. Instead of waiting until I had everything and doing it all at once, I insisted on putting the french doors as soon as we got them a few weeks ago. Apparently this t-111 siding has to lock together…

Yobeat is Back!

What big news I mentioned? here is the official release: Snowboarding’s original blog, Yobeat.com, relaunched on August 8, 2008 in celebration of its 11th anniversary. Actually the relaunch had nothing to do with the date or the anniversary. That’s just when it was done. Yobeat.com started in 1997, the brainchild of Brooke Geery and Rachel Cotton. Over the past eleven years it has gone through many incarnations, ruffled feathers, been banned from major events and of course, entertained anyone doing a google search for Macho Man Randy Savage or snowboard parks. The original philosophy of Yobeat was to tell it like it is, and that remains unchanged. Sure, not everyone…

Short Shorts

So I have big things in the works this week, but I may have promised someone the "exclusive." Yeah, it's that big. All will be revealed tomorrow, but for now, here is a picture of the Vegan Bakery employees in short shorts. Apparently they just all decided to wear their shortest shorts today, or something. I thought it was a joke, but last time I went downstairs they were still wearing them. Man, living in Portland is great. PS. Sweet Pea Bakery is really yummy and everyone should eat there and have Allan (not pictured) make you an iced Americano.

The Big One!

I am concluding my trip to California a day early, not just because I can, but because I officially did everything one could possibly need to do to have a REAL California experience. I saw pro skateboarders and surfers, heard plenty of Sublime, ate tacos and burritos, and Pat Duffy even mistook me for a waitress and tried to order a beer. But things really hit a pinnacle when a 5.4 earthquake struck this morning. I was standing in the Transworld Offices and felt the ground shake for a solid 5 seconds. It was pretty much awesome. A few of the people who were further inside the office didn't even…

Although I run, edit and basically am the reason Alliancewakeskate.com exists, I try not to actually do much writing for the site. Aside from a few blogs, I reserve my literary skills for the occasional feature and interview, cause I figure there are probably more qualified to write about winch spots and what not. Besides, the most entertaining words on the site come in the form of the comments, where a few individuals have taken it upon themselves to turn everything into a battle. The best part though, is no log in is required, so people can post as anyone. It only took a few weeks before the kids realized…

Driving Traffic

Although I run, edit and basically am the reason Alliancewakeskate.com exists, I try not to actually do much writing for the site. Aside from a few blogs, I reserve my literary skills for the occasional feature and interview, cause I figure there are probably more qualified to write about winch spots and what not. Besides, the most entertaining words on the site come in the form of the comments, where a few individuals have taken it upon themselves to turn everything into a battle. The best part though, is no log in is required, so people can post as anyone. It only took a few weeks before the kids realized…

This is not actually as bad as it looks. Thanks Jen for the emergency room transport once again. I would write all the details but the sling up to my shoulder makes it hard to type. Read this blog to find out more.

You can…
