Early Retirement

I was doing so good with the blogging for awhile there. I guess I was busier, which generally leads to increased productivity. Not that I haven't been busy. In fact I was on the road, so I had no free time. Of course my trip turned out to be less than productive, thanks to crummy weather, and some unmotivated riders. Actually, it inspired me to retire from snowboard photography. Well, I'm not going to entirely retire, but I think I'll stick to trips where I am getting paid and mostly responsible for the story, not making medicore shredding look good. Reality is so much more subjective in written words.…

Oh snow!

Things are, well, going up here in Canada. The weather is not really cooperating, and there's so much snow everywhere we have to dig for 2 hours before anything gets hit and the angles sort of suck. Also my boots are still wet from yesterday. The good news is I got new boots at Walmart for $3, but they would not be so good for shooting. Anyway, there's going to be a a lot of artsy black and white photos coming from this trip. Tonight we are off to Quebec City, and hopefully it will be better weather.

Oh Canada!

Yum, poutine!  I was all set to go back to spring in Oregon yesterday, but I got an email from Josh Sherman inviting me on a jib trip to Quebec to shoot photos, and well, it's definitely not spring here. We are currently in Trois-Rivieres, a paper mill town about an hour east of Montreal. It smells kind of funny, but there is more snow than I have ever seen anywhere east of the Rockies. I mean, it doesn't compare to how Snowqualmie Pass looked, but there are seriously giant snow banks and about a foot of slush every where you try to walk. Today we are going to hit…

Killington in the Mist

I am in Vermont for the Grand Prix. I am making a statement by coming for this event, and leaving before the open, or something. Anyway, my parents live here so it's an excuse to come home. Yesterday I watched the pipe qualifiers (I may have missed most of the men's and instead sat though sixty runs of women) then got dinner with my parents at Applebee's. It's not that I am too cool for a show by the Shiny Toy Guns (who I am sure I should have heard of) I just really like my Applebees, and my parents. I trekked back up to Killington (although I will admit…

Time for a new airline?

Flying sucks. I do it enough to be well aware that it is really no fun. Sure, if you need to go cross country and don't want to spend three days in a car, it's probably the best option, but man, layovers, delays, economy seating, lack of airplane food, etc are all major bummers of domestic travel. Tomorrow I head back east for, well, no real purpose other than I had a free ticket and there's a snowboard contest going on so I can write the rest of the trip off my taxes and maybe make a couple dollars. You know that feeling you get when you have to go…

Act Like You Know

My friend Sarah Morrison is funny. We went to college together but we were informed we "would not get along" so I don't think we ever spoke. Then one fateful day we were both visiting the same mutual friends in Portland, she had nothing to do and I was going up to Mt. Hood. I asked her if she'd like to come. Our friends all gasped as if the car might explode should we drive in it together. But as it turned out, Sarah and I got along swimmingly. We have since been BFF's over a short stint in Burlington, VT, driven cross country together 3 times, and she's lived…

Kitty Soccer (the reedit)

I am still learning to use iMovie. Now that am into this making movies thing, I figure I should learn all the tricks. If I was really serious, I would get a real program to edit with, but for now, iMovie will suffice. Anyway, I was whining about having the reimport clips over and over if you want to use multiple pieces of them, and a very wise man informed me that you could actually split the clips right in iMovie. Who knew! Anyway, I looked it up and decided I could make Kitty Soccer way more funny with this new found skill, so I did a reedit. Since only…

Kitten War

Awhile back one of my friends told me about the best site ever, Kitten War, which pits two adorably cute kittens against each other, and you have to decide which is cuter. Being an avid kitten photographer, I immediately went home and posted a picture of Tyra on the site. After awhile I checked her progress and found she'd won only a few of her battles. The "all of our kittens are winners really..." slogan at the bottom of the page didn't really make me feel any better. I decided that the photo I chose, one of her looking curiously into the camera lense with flowers in the background just…

Today was a very long day. The Grand Prix did not run any faster to make up for it. I got this photo that I am very psyched on: You can read the story here. The videos will be done tomorrow.

Killington in the Mist

I am in Vermont for the Grand Prix. I am making a statement by coming for this event, and leaving before the open, or something. Anyway, my parents live here so it's an excuse to come home.
